The ruler obviously is a liberal and ingenious individual who is additionally exceptionally charitable. This venture saw him contribute $590 million dollars making him the biggest investor. Citibank is a speculation that caused him to win multiple times more its incentive from $590 million to $7 billion in stock. This outfitted his notoriety for being a smart financial specialist and a broker. In 2007 these stocks esteems were said to cost averagely each $42 when contrasted with $2.98 at the hour of the downturn as per Bloomberg records (Gerald 2005, 96). Other than putting resources into brand names Al-Waleed was extremely understandable with furnishing his organization with a phenomenal and solid supervisory crew that would help in executing fruitful recuperation plans since the vast majority of the organizations he had put resources into were confronting challenges. As indicated by him, these organ izations were not gravely off; rather all they required was some measure of cash and direction in the board for them to succeed. Hence, it would be trying for their rivals to exceed them since they hold and have their particular piece of the overall industry to themselves. Opiate drugs are extremely habit-forming; tolerance, physical dependence, addiction, and withdrawal symptoms are all possible.?? As a result, there is a high potential for misuse and addiction, even when use begins with a prescription. Prescription opioids include: CodeineDemerol (meperidine)Dilaudid (hydromorphone)MethadoneMorphineOxycontin (oxycodone)Percocet (acetaminophen/oxycodone)Vicodin (hydrocodone)Fentanyl The illicit drug heroin is also an opioid. Cutting out opioids safely involves gradually reducing the painkiller dosage as opposed to stopping the medication outright. Your best bet is to consult with your physician before you stop taking these medications. Overview Opioid withdrawal is not pleasant, but in most cases, it’s not life-threatening. In fact, many people describe it like having a bad flu, with fever and sweating, nausea and vomiting, muscle aches and pain, and insomnia.?? These symptoms can occur if you try to quit cold turkey” (suddenly stop the medication)â€"even if youre only taking the amount prescribed by your doctor. Tapering off the drugs slowly can help avoid some unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Unfortunately, opioid tolerance builds quickly and the risk of physical dependence with opioids is high. For some, dependence can develop in a mere two weeks, especially if youre taking a large dose. Signs Symptoms Withdrawal symptoms can range from mild to very severe, depending on the type of drug, frequency of use, severity of dependence, and your overall health. Symptoms of withdrawal can begin six to 30 hours after last use of the drug and can last anywhere from five to 10 days, depending on the type of opioid. Symptoms can include: Early symptoms (within 24 hours of stopping the drug): AnxietyMuscle aches and painsRestless legsEyes tearing (lacrimation)Excessive sweatingInsomniaFrequent yawning Later symptoms: Abdominal crampingDiarrheaDilated pupilsNausea and vomitingRapid heart rateHigher blood pressure If you notice any of these symptoms, or if your withdrawal symptoms become worse, be sure to inform your healthcare provider immediately. Your provider may use tools like the Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale (COWS) to determine the stage of withdrawal and assess your level of physical dependence on the drug. Opioid Withdrawal Timeline Withdrawal symptoms begin (short-acting opioids) 6â€"12 hours after last dose Withdrawal symptoms begin (long-acting opioids) 30 hours after last dose Withdrawal symptoms peak 72 hours after last dose Withdrawal symptoms dissipate Up to 10 days after last dose Coping Relief You may be able to go through opioid withdrawal at home under the direction of your doctor if you have a strong support system and the appropriate medications. But many people need the support of an inpatient detoxification program or local hospital. To help your physician determine the best route for cutting out opioids, consider keeping a pain journal and track everything related to your painkillers, including: DosageFrequency of usePositive and negative effects Do your best to have a plan before visiting your physician. If you are taking opioids for pain, consider asking yourself questions like the following: What are your expectations? Do you want to simply switch painkillers, or do you want to try and live painkiller free? Traditional and Alternative Pain Management When transitioning off of narcotic painkillers, your doctor may prescribe other pain-relieving medications to ease withdrawal symptoms and prevent breakthrough pain.?? Opiate/opioid addiction may also be treated with other drugs that help shorten and alleviate symptoms of withdrawal, including: Acetaminophen (Tylenol), aspirin, or NSAIDs (Ibuprofen) for mild symptomsLoperamide (Imodium) for diarrheaHydroxyzine (Vistaril, Atarax) for nauseaClonidine for symptoms of withdrawalMethadone for long-term maintenanceAntidepressant for co-occurring depression or anxiety Warnings Although the symptoms may not be life-threatening, there are dangerous withdrawal complications that can occur if left untreated. Withdrawal symptoms may include dehydration, hypernatremia (elevated blood sodium level), and heart failure from persistent vomiting and diarrhea.?? Aspiration, which can cause choking or lung infection, can also occur if you vomit and then breathe in stomach contents into your lungs. Perhaps the biggest danger of withdrawal is a relapse. The opioid withdrawal and detox process reduces your tolerance to the drug, so if you go back to taking the same amount of opioids you previously took, overdose can easily occur. Understanding Opioid Overdoses Long-Term Treatment For most people, symptoms of withdrawal should markedly improve within a few days or weeks. If your symptoms are lingering or getting worse, it’s important to get medical help. Quitting opioids is not easy and you may need long-term recovery support or addiction treatment following withdrawal to stay off the drugs, including: Maintenance medicationSupport groups (such as Narcotics Anonymous or SMART Recovery)Outpatient therapyIntensive outpatient treatmentInpatient treatment Resources No one expects you to stop taking opioids on your own; help is encouraged and readily available. Even if you have been using a narcotic painkiller for a brief time, you may still be at risk for developing withdrawal symptoms if you quit on your own. If youre taking opioids for pain, talk to your physician about why you want to make a change with your pain medication, and let them help you do it the right (and safe) way. If you need treatment for opioid addiction, you can find a treatment program near you using the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) treatment locator tool. A Word From Verywell Experiencing the symptoms of opioid withdrawal can be unpleasant and require proper aftercare to ensure lasting recovery. People who take opioids over a long period of time are at high risk of physical dependence and should consult a doctor about managing withdrawal symptoms should they decide to stop taking the drug. If you or a loved one experiences negative consequences of opioid dependence, you should also talk to your doctor about treatment for opioid use disorder.

Narrative Structure Free Essays

In this report I am going to be covering camera techniques, narrative structure, format, styles and content and technical elements. When doing so I am going to be explaining how each one works, what it does and give examples of how they are used. Camera techniques In film and television production there are two main types of camera techniques single camera production and multi camera productions. We will write a custom essay sample on Narrative Structure or any similar topic only for you Order Now A single camera production either film or video is employed on the set and each shot to make up a scene. These shots are taken individually. Using the single-camera setup generally employs just one camera. Each of the various shots and camera angles is taken with the same camera which is moved and reset to get each shot or from a new angle, if a scene cuts back and forth between actor A and actor B, the director will first point the camera towards A and shoot shots number 1, 3, 5, 7, and so on. Then they will point the camera toward subject B and do shots number 2, 4, 6, 8, ECT. Multiple-camera mode of production or multicam is a method of shooting films and television programs. Several cameras either film or video are employed on the set and simultaneously records or broadcast a scene. By using this format there is multiple shots taken to chapter the overall action and establishes the geography of the room. An example of the set up of a multi camera production set is shown below Narrative structure Narrative structure helps to define the story and helps to understand the message within the film giving it a meaning, this only applies to the way the story is told not the story itself. Narrative structure is divided into 3 different stages also known as the chronological stages. Stage 1 -the beginning – the state of equilibrium Stage 2 –the middle – the destruction of equilibrium Stage 3 – the end- the reinstatement of the equilibrium. However there is another way to describe Narrative structure in more depth the French male Tzvetan Todorov does this by using 5 stages. Stage 1 – A state of equilibrium is defined. Stage 2 – Disruption to the equilibrium by some action or crisis. Stage 3- the character(s) attempt to repair the disruption, Setting goals to resolve problem. Stage 4- The Character(s) attempt to repair the disruption; Obstacles need to be overcome to restore order. Stage 5- Reinstatement to the equilibrium. Situation is resolved, a conclusion is announced. Narrative Flashbacks Narrative flashbacks takes the narrative back in time from the current point that the story has reached. Most of the time flashbacks are used to recount events that have happened before the story’s primary sequence of events or to fill in a crucial back-story or stories. A character origin flashback specifically refers to flashbacks dealing with key events early in a character’s development. In the opposite direction, a flash forward reveals events that will occur in the future. This technique is used to create suspense in a story, or develop a character. Linear Vs Non Linear Non Linear is where events that are happening are portrayed out of chronological order It is often used to mimic the structure and recall of human memory but has been applied for other reasons as well. 2 examples of non linear films are kill bill and across the hall however linear is where events that happening are in chronological order; the story starts at the beginning goes on throughout the middle and then finishes at the end an example of a linear film is little red riding hood and also beauty and the beast. Realism vs surrealism Realism narrative is a storyline that capture real life though the life of the character(s) . The events that happen within the story line could happen in everyday The clue of its meaning is within the name realism, so anything that happens within a realism narrative is capable of happening in everyday life. Surrealism narrative is the opposite within this particular narrative the content and events involved in the story line will be unreal and essentially made up from someone’s imagination. There are many different types of lighting techniques including Background lighting, Cameo lighting ,Fill light, Flood lighting ,High-key lighting ,Key Lighting ,Lens flare ,Low-key lighting, Mood lighting, Rembrandt lighting, Stage lighting and Soft light Sound Sound effects or audio effects are created or enhanced sounds, which are used to emphasize artistic or other content of films, television shows, live performance, animation, video games, music, or other media. In professional motion picture and television production, dialogue, music, and sound effects recordings are treated as separate elements. Dialogue and music recordings are never referred to as sound effects, even though the processes applied to them, such as reverberation or flanging effects. Editing Film editing is part of the process of filmmaking. It involves the selection and combining of shots into sequences, and ultimately creating a finished motion picture. It is an art of storytelling. Film editing is the only art that is unique to cinema, separating film-making from other art forms that preceded it such as photography, theater, dance, writing, and directing, Film editing is often referred to as the â€Å"invisible art] because when it is well-practiced, the viewer can become so engaged that he or she is not even aware of the editor’s work. Write Engaging Geology Personal Statement Research Paper Example

Write Engaging Geology Personal Statement Research Paper Example Write Engaging Geology Personal Statement Paper Write Engaging Geology Personal Statement Paper â€Å"A stone is ingrained with geological and historical memories† (Andy Goldsworthy) We are well-aware of the fact that writing is quite a demanding task but writing an engaging personal statement is utterly complicated. Personal statements are definitely not as simple as typical essays. These particular manuscripts function as a written expression of the candidate that demonstrates to the college his/her qualities, motivation, and passion and career goals. Remember that an engaging statement is one golden ticket that can lead an applicant to the college of his/her choice. Therefore to gain the acceptance of a college and explore the field of geology you need to put together a convincing and winning personal statement. Majority of colleges believe that a statement of purpose – which is another name of personal statement – can further improve the candidate’s admission application. It can improve the application by expressing the qualities and skills of a potential applicant. By analyzing your perfect sentence structure, grammar and punctuation they are supposed to evaluate the applicant and identify how great of a fit the applicant will be for their college. A geology personal statement begins with demonstrating what influenced the candidate to pursue Geology. Why not some other field? Who or what motivated the applicant? By expressing the factors behind the motivation you grab the attention of the roving eyes of the admission officer in the introduction paragraph. For example â€Å"when I was young I went to camping with my family, I was astonished and fascinated by the sheer size of the mountains and ocean. My uncle was a geologist I would go to his home every weekend only to learn more about geology. I was truly captivated by the structure of mountains and the vastness of the ocean.† After expressing the elements that work behind the force that drive you to pursue this field, demonstrate how your academic subjects helped you to understand more about geology. You can tell the audience how particular subjects like Physics and Geography helped you gained in-depth understanding or knowledge of geology. Show the admission officers how you plan to use your analytical skills that you have developed through your education. Also briefly describe the list of projects or field works that you have conducted during studies. In the next paragraph, you need to list down your extra-curricular activities or hobbies while describing each one of them in a brief manner. Majority of students don’t give much attention to these details and they either just list down all their hobbies without describing them or they don’t mention any extra-curricular activities at all. One of the best means through which you can learn how to craft a winning Geology personal statement is through analyzing numerous geology personal statement samples. You can also check out original personal statements that have been written by students and accepted in several colleges. Reading excellent statements will kick start your creativity and help you develop excellent geology statements. Take into account the above given critical pointers and secure a slot in the college of your choice.

Definition and Examples of Linguistic Imperialism

Definition and Examples of Linguistic Imperialism Linguistic imperialism is the imposition of one language on speakers of other languages. It is also known as  linguistic nationalism, linguistic dominance, and language imperialism. In our time, the global expansion of English has often been cited as the primary example of linguistic imperialism. The term linguistic imperialism originated in the 1930s as part of a critique of Basic English and was reintroduced by linguist Robert Phillipson in his monograph Linguistic Imperialism (Oxford University Press, 1992). In that study, Phillipson offered this working definition of English linguistic imperialism: the dominance asserted and maintained by the establishment and continuous reconstitution of structural and cultural inequalities between English and other languages. Phillipson viewed linguistic imperialism as a subtype of linguicism. Examples and Observations of Linguistic Imperialism The study of linguistic imperialism can help to clarify whether the winning of political independence led to a linguistic liberation of Third World countries, and if not, why not. Are the former colonial languages a useful bond with the international community and necessary for state formation and national unity internally? Or are they a bridgehead for Western interests, permitting the continuation of a global system of marginalization and exploitation? What is the relationship between linguistic dependence (continued use of a European language in a former non-European colony) and economic dependence (the export of raw materials and import of technology and know-how)? (Phillipson, Robert. Linguistic Imperialism. Concise Encyclopedia of Applied Linguistics, ed. by Margie Berns, Elsevier, 2010.) The rejection of the linguistic legitimacy of a language- any language used by any linguistic community- in short, amounts to little more than an example of the tyranny of the majority. Such a rejection reinforces the long tradition and history of linguistic imperialism in our society. The harm, though, is done not only to those whose languages we reject, but in fact to all of us, as we are made poorer by an unnecessary narrowing of our cultural and linguistic universe. (Reagan, Timothy. Language Matters: Reflections on Educational Linguistics. Information Age, 2009.) The fact that†¦no uniform British empire-wide language policy developed tends to disconfirm the hypothesis of linguistic imperialism as responsible for the spread of English†¦ The teaching of English by itself†¦, even where it did take place, is not sufficient grounds to identify the policy of the British empire with linguistic imperialism. (Brutt-Griffler, Janina. World English: A Study of Its Development. Multilingual Matters, 2002.) Linguistic Imperialism in Sociolinguistics There is by now a well-entrenched and very respectable branch of sociolinguistics, which is concerned with describing the world of globalization from the perspective of linguistic imperialism and linguicide (Phillipson 1992; Skutnabb-Kangas 2000), often based on particular ecological metaphors. These approaches†¦oddly assume that wherever a big and powerful language such as English appears in a foreign territory, small indigenous languages will die. There is, in this image of sociolinguistic space, place for just one language at a time. In general, there seems to be a serious problem with the ways in which space is imagined in such work. In addition, the actual sociolinguistic details of such processes are rarely spelled out- languages can be used in vernacular or in lingua franca varieties and so create different sociolinguistic conditions for mutual influencing. (Blommaert, Jan. The Sociolinguistics of Globalization. Cambridge University Press, 2010.) Colonialism and Linguistic Imperialism Anachronistic views of linguistic imperialism, which see as important only the power asymmetry between the former colonial nations and the nations of the third world, are hopelessly inadequate as an explanation of linguistic realities. They especially ignore the fact that first world countries with strong languages seem to be under just as much pressure to adopt English, and that some of the harshest attacks on English have come from countries [that] have no such colonial legacy. When dominant languages feel they are being dominated, something much bigger than a simplistic conception of power relations must be involved. (Crystal, David. English as a Global Language, 2nd ed. Cambridge University Press, 2003.)

SOCIOLOGICAL Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 5250 words

SOCIOLOGICAL - Essay Example These social topics are studied through complex theoretical and methodological frameworks that address the broad range of concepts like positivism and anti-positivism, social structure, individual agency, materialism, globalization, modernity, post-modernity etc. The social theories aid back to the ancient Greek civilizations. Social theorizing aided the Greeks in making sense of their lives, and in questioning the value and meaning of things around them. However, in the 20th century, social theories appeared as a distinct discipline and involved critical thinking in order to gain knowledge of social behaviours through posterior methods of discovery rather than apriority methods of tradition. In order to explain social phenomena, sociologists developed several theories. Sociological theories range from grand theories to middle range and highly specific micro range theories. It is extremely difficult to cover the aspects of these broad range theories, therefore in the later sections of this report; I will broadly give an outline of the dominant sociological theories and critically discuss two sociological theories in detail. i. Functionalism: functionalism is the oldest and the most dominant approach which has served as a building block in the development of sociology as a distinct decipline. Functionalist movement was most popular from 1940’s-1950 but reached its decline in 1960’s. Overall, this theory talks about two main aspects: Scientific methods should be applied to understand the â€Å"objectivity† of the social world. It says that social sciences can be learned in the same manner as natural sciences. Functionalists view this world as â€Å"objective real†. Therefore, they emphasized that scientific methods and statistical techniques can be applied to research social phenomena. However, the research should be value-free. It should not be affected by the values, principles and perceptions of the

University Education and Writing :: Education Writing Language Essays

University Education and Writing In doing the comparison metaphor of what an university education is like to me I choose a minimum wage job. After about twelve weeks later I would say that this is still what I believe and that I have really not changed that much in my thinking. By using the metaphor of a minimum wage job in describing an university education I feel it best describes my feelings towards school and why I am here. I dealing with my description of my self and the self I portray in my writing I am a person who writes what he wants to say. I never leave out anything, or try to cover up anything I write from within and If someone doesn't like it then too bad because this is me. I the analysis of my first paper I saw an education as something that I wouldn't want to spend the rest of my life doing; like a minimum wage job. Let me explain. I fell into college and because of that I do not always find attending school "enlightening or fulfilling." I think I get this from my roots of blue collar workers in my family and how my grandfather was self sustaining. He always stressed the importance of schooling but, he also stressed the unimportance of learning anything that didn't relate to the sciences and mathematics. He considered university education as something that one needs to enter certain work forces, but he commonly referred to many educated people as "educated fools"; which were people who knew a lot out of books but nothing about the real world and common sense. You can think of those people being the environmentalist compared to the ecologist. An environmentalist has no formal training or training in management of ecosystems and wildlife but an ecologis t does and thus can make more informed though out answers to many of our environmental problems. In further analysis of my paper I said, "For me my university education has been an experience that would never take away. I was able to find myself, to escape the judgments of the powercrats who run people down and weaken the spirit." This was a very powerful style of writing for me because I hate those people who think that they are better than others and those people who feel that because they are educated they must know more and in general be smarter about a lot of things.

The Directive Informational Approach For Education

In the proposed scenario, the teacher was coming from a special education classroom, where she taught for three years. She has transitioned to a third grade classroom where she has been for eight years. It appears that each time the administrator has visited the classroom any suggestions or comments that were left in her mailbox were ignored. There are some unanswered questions for this scenario. Third grade is a big year for reading. This teacher’s end of the year data isn’t included in the information and I think that this has to be considered when approaching the evaluation. We also do not know what kind of health concerns this teacher is facing. Are these concerns ongoing or just something that she faced in the past? Given the†¦show more content†¦This may need to be addressed in a face to face manner, where both parties have a chance to express concerns and expectations. If the communication isn’t there, then the administrator has to shoulder some o f the fault for the teacher’s response or lack of a response to the feedback. Another area to be addressed would be teacher accountability. In the end the teacher is responsible for the happenings inside his or her classroom. One of the most important things administrators can do, is hold teachers accountable. In this scenario we don’t know if the things that this teacher overlooked like the misspelled words, grammatical errors, and failure to update bulletin boards, are impacting learning inside the classroom. If they are impacting learning, then it should be addressed with the teacher. If these are expectations that have been established and are not being met, then the teacher should be held accountable. Accountability will challenge teachers to grow and reflect on the happenings inside their classroom. Administrators must offer the appropriate amount of support to go along with this expectation of accountability. Accountability without support will lead to failure o r frustration.
